Honors Student Learning Outcomes:

The goal of this assessment plan is to further embed regular assessment of student learning in all honors courses and work towards closing the loop in each of these areas. These Honors Program Learning Outcomes have been aligned with the Liberal Arts and Sciences Program Learning Outcomes to ensure consistency across the disciplines. Grading rubrics have been developed for each area and will be used to assess Honors courses each year with the aligned Liberal Arts and Sciences program learning outcomes.
Professional Communication:
Students will be able to communicate effectively through a variety of methods (e.g. oral, written).

Program Learning Outcomes:
● Students will present an easily identifiable, focused, original, and thought-provoking controlling purpose or thesis.
◦ Measurement example: Debates, presentations, essays

● Students will present and thoroughly discuss relevant information and/or images as support for the controlling purpose or thesis.
◦ Measurement example: Debates, presentations, essays

● Students will use language that is vivid, clear, appropriate, and grammatically correct; that displays syntactic sophistication; and that conforms to the conventions of professional communication within the field.

Basic Knowledge of Subject Field, Intellectual Rigor:
Students will be challenged to think, perform, and grow to a level/standard provided by their individual field of study. Students will demonstrate basic knowledge and relevance of their field of study.

Research/ Critical Thinking:
Students will investigate and study a variety of source material to acquire knowledge and draw conclusions. Students will identify, analyze, and evaluate multiple arguments as they occur in the literature of the discipline and develop well-reasoned, evidence-based arguments.

● Students will formulate research questions, scholarly or creative problems with integration of fundamental principles and knowledge in a manner appropriate to the discipline.
